Oh Crepe
Let’s talk crepes. I’m not Gordon Ramsey, but a good crepe is one of my favorite things in the world. My obsession began young as my Baba would make the Russian version of them known as blinchiki. I would usually put fruit syrup, jam, or sour cream in them when I was blessed with the opportunity to go on the most magical journey known as Baba’s cooking. For savory crepes, Baba would usually make a ground beef and rice mixture that would be wrapped in the crepe. Crepes have always been a comfort food of mine, so as I am in a foreign city with a foreign language that I do not speak, I have clung to that comfort and familiarity.

Over the past week and a half, I have had a crepe almost every day. It is usually a dessert crepe, and my go-to is a plain crepe with Nutella. There is just something about the warmth of the Nutella and crepe combined that make it feel like a nice warm hug in my mouth. A Nutella crepe can really be a game changer when I need a bit more energy to get through the last part of the day’s outings
Savory crepes are on a whole other level of deliciousness. The savory crepes I have had during this trip have either been made with buckwheat flour or whole wheat flour. Both types have melded well with the flavors within.

The first savory crepe during my trip was from a creperie on the next metro stop over from the University. This crepe had chicken, ham, cheese, and egg in it, and by gosh, it was one of the best things I have eaten on this trip. It may have been my pure exhaustion and incredibly hungry stomach when I ate this, but I thought I heard angels singing as I bit into it. Truly a masterpiece that belongs in the Louvre.

Another legendary crepe that I have had during my stay here came from the food truck right outside the gates of the University. This food truck is run by two guys that always recognize their customers as they pass and say hello in whichever language they remember their customers speaking. I had eaten here before when the school cafeteria was closed, and the panini I got there gave me life. After eating there once, I knew I needed to again, so I got a special crepe. This crepe had chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomato, spices, and a homemade hot sauce that was 10/10.
I expect to eat way more delicious food and crepes during my time here in Paris over the next several weeks!
