A couple days ago, a few of my friends and I were craving…

A couple days ago, a few of my friends and I were craving American food, cheeseburgers in particular. Being a vegetarian, I set out to find a restaurant that also served vegetarian options for me. I searched online and ended up finding the best place to get a veggie burger in Paris. They only had vegetarian options but my friends agreed to try them out with me. The restaurant is called East Side Burgers and they offer two different veggie burgers that change day to day. On their website they say they their veggie patties are organic and hand made with cereals or tofu and cooked with vegetables and spices. They also make a range of side dishes and vegan desserts. The veggie burgers of the day when we went were the Mariachi and the Fromager. The Mariachi burger had double cheddar cheese, homemade guacamole, jalapenos, and tortilla chips. The Fromager had cheddar cheese, cream cheese, sun dried tomatoes, and pickles. My friends all opted for the Mariachi, but I wanted something closer to a classic burger so I chose the Fromager. I’ve had quite a few veggie burgers, but the one I had from East Side Burgers is by far probably the best and freshest made veggie patty I’ve ever had. My non vegetarian friends enjoyed theirs too (thanks Kerry, Holly, and Shannon)! We ate in at the restaurant so I was able to observed the other patrons and compare the Paris restaurant to vegetarian restaurants in America. While we were there, there was a young couple probably in their mid 20′s, and two groups of about 6 people that all looked like they were in high school. Which are different and similar to the groups of people I’ve seen eating at all vegetarian establishments back home. The age range is similar, as the people who are older and vegetarian that I know don’t eat out much because all vegetarian restaurants are so new to them, so they tend to stick with making their own vegetarian meals at home because they’ve been doing it for so long. But, I’ve never seen such large groups of people eating together at a vegetarian restaurant. It’s mostly just couples or groups of 4 at most, so seeing such a large group of young people trying all vegetarian food was very pleasing to me. Though, they could’ve been like my friends who were just trying it for the night, but it’s nice to think that the stigma that vegetarian food isn’t as good as food with meat might be fading as people open their minds more and explore new alternatives. I hope to bring more friends to East Side again before I leave Paris, and I’m excited to continue exploring the vegetarian and vegan food scene while I’m here!
