I had fun visiting the palace of Versailles, but so much gold it was almost blinding in the sun. I think that was rather the point though to show off the king’s wealth and power. It was absolutely beautiful though. It makes me think though that despite having all the perks of being royal it must really stink to not be able to go anywhere or do anything without an audience watching your every move. Maybe that’s just me since that would make me uncomfortable being in the spotlight all the time.
I really enjoyed the gardens though, so many terminal vistas. Which reminds me that the layout and design of Washington DC was in part modeled after the gardens of Versailles. I really wished more of the fountains were on, but then that lot of water and a lot of power to run all of the fountains. That didn’t make them the least bit impressive though.
