Five Things

I am really loving the culture here in France; however, there are definitely some things I miss about home.  Here is a list of the top five things that I love about France and miss about the U.S.

  1. The metro– I love being able to get almost anywhere in the city within minutes.

    Metro
  2. The climate– Yeah it can get a little hot here, but it is nothing compared to the upper 90’s with like 100% humidity in Virginia.
  3. The Parks– They are everywhere and are super nice. I am talking about nice fountains, playgrounds, shade, running paths, and they are very clean.
  4. Crepes– You can literally get crepes anywhere here. I also love that I can have them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and/or dessert. There are also like a hundred flavors to choose from, so you can always get something new.
  5. Coke a Cola- two words REAL SUGAR!

  1. A/C– Even though it does not get super-hot here it can get warm. For example, after being stuck on the metro with a million other people, all I want is to walk into my cool dorm, only to find that it is just as hot inside as it is outside.
  2. Re-fills– I have no idea why they do not give refills here, but I really do not appreciate it. The do-it-yourself drink machines at Five-Guys did not even let me get a refill. They had QR codes on the bottom of the cup that the machine read and would not allow me to refill my cup.
  3. Gatorade– I just really want some and I cannot find anything like it here.
  4. Peace and Quiet at night– I really just want to sleep throughout the night without hearing someone sing, talk loudly, slam doors, drag race, or the tram running.
  5. Fast-food – I know it is not good for me and it is probably better that I cannot have it here. However, I really miss the convenience of it. Plus, sometimes I want really cheap food.

Ugh, I completely understand about the climate! Even when Paris was measuring in at over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, I still found it more tolerable than Virginia’s humidity (and I say this as a someone born and raised in VA!)
